Example of TGA/FTIR Analysis used to Identify Volatile Solvents in a Polymer Matrix
TGA/FTIR Spectrum
TGA/FTIR analysis of Volatile Components in a Polymer Matrix
Solvent compositions and total volatiles were determined in a polymer sample at held at 100C for 1 hour.
With TGA we determined the total percent volatiles after 1 hour drying @ 100C.
With an in-line FTIR gas cell we identified all the volatiles lost during a 1-hour soak.
FTIR was used to determine the percent weight loss of each volatile component based on separation of components by their identifiable spectra.
TGA/FTIR analysis has provided quantitative information about weight loss and thermal stability of volatile components lost on drying.
